What are some signs that I should divorce my spouse?

Most Illinoisans go into their marriages with the mindset that they will be with their spouses forever. However, all marriages are not built to last. Some people rush to divorce their partners at the first signs of conflict.

If you find yourself unhappy and unsatisfied with your relationship, you may find thoughts of separation on your mind. Before you decide to divorce your partner, you need to know if it is the best solution for your situation. Here are some signs that the end of your marriage may be near.

You avoid each other

Sometimes you and your partner may need time away from each other. It is not uncommon for married couples to do things by themselves and with their friends and family instead of each other. But, if you and your spouse spend more time apart than you do together, you may want to question why. It could be you are no longer comfortable or interested in their company.

Spend more time fighting than talking

Arguments are a normal aspect of most relationships. After all, you and your partner have different personalities. If you look up and realize that you and your spouse argue almost every time you speak and find reasons to disagree with each other, you should learn how to communicate more effectively. However, if your partner does not care to stop the arguments and insists on starting conflict every chance they get, it may be time for you to call it quits.

Arguments and avoidance can cause you and your spouse to experience communication problems that make it hard for you to overcome the challenges in your relationship. According to Psychology Today, a lack of healthy communication can put the health and longevity of your marriage at risk of failure.

You should not expect for every second of your marriage to be a happy one. Sometimes you and your spouse may have different opinions about things and habits that may bring about disagreements. If it seems that you and your spouse cannot see eye to eye on important issues in your marriage, you may need to reconsider the way you resolve them. If no amount of compromising keeps the arguments from happening, then it may be time for you to assess whether it is time for you to divorce.
